Putting People before Politics

Key Concerns

Repair Our Economy

WOMEN AND CHILDREN

Contraception is used for both responsible family planning and as medication for certain medical conditions. Contraception is part of all medical plans, and I do not believe we should be reducing medical coverage for women. Making a woman explain to her employer why she wants to use contraception is a violation of the intent of HIPAA privacy rule, as well as just being downright oppressive.

We need to stop plea bargaining away sex offenses. If you rape, you register! No more pleading down to a non-register-able crime. Sex offenders should not be able to pass a background check to be able to work at day cares and nursing homes. We need to concentrate on public safety and not how many felonies can be plea bargained.

EDUCATION

Arizona House Democrats wanted to add an amendment to SB1047 to ensure that all schools, not just public schools, have to test students and show the students’ scores for standardized testing.

When parents look at how a school is doing, private schools need to be playing by the same rules.  The Republican response is that school choice means that private and charter schools should not be regulated because that takes away choice. Kids deserve to have standards no matter what school they attend.  I believe that every child deserves to have an education that meets minimum requirements.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Guns on Campus = bad idea.  We have been working to get guns off of college campuses for the past several decades. Now Arizona extremists are putting them back on campuses.

This is crazy on so many levels. The schools do not want it, the students do not want it, the faculty does not want it… but our extremist legislators believe this is the way to support 2nd Amendment rights. I strongly disagree that this is what the 2nd  Amendment was intended to do.

Repair Our Economy

ECONOMY

In June of 2011, our legislature declined to extend the benefits for 15,000 Arizonans who were in the same position and 30K that would be there in a matter of a couple months.

With an unemployment rate of 9.3 the legislature turned their backs on the struggling families of Arizona. Arizona legislatures said no to receiving $80 million to help Arizona families and economy. Who is representing you at the legislature?

INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE AND OUR SCHOOLS

Arizona has been de-funding public education then blaming the schools for failing. All students should have equal access to a quality education in a safe environment.

Support Our Veterans

VETERANS ISSUES

After serving our country, veterans are coming home to foreclosures, no jobs or under-employed, and medical issues preventing them from holding a job.

Phoenix has approximately 3,500 homeless vets sleeping on the streets every night. We can do better than that! We need to invest in our veterans and help them transition back into civilian life. I want to thank the veterans and their families for their service. I will ensure Arizona Veterans are made a priority and treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
